Change in Board termsThere will be no Lamar CISD Board of Trustee elections in the spring of 2008.
In response to a new state mandate and ruling from the Attorney General’s office, the LCISD Board of Trustees has changed its election cycle. The new ruling states that school districts must hold trustee elections on the same uniform election date as the election for government officials of municipalities located in the school district or during the general election for state and county officials.
The legal opinion by Attorney General Greg Abbott also requires a school board to change to four-year trustee terms to coincide with the terms of the officials of the partnering city.

The 2009 election will be for: · District 1, held by Kathy Hyson, at the end of the current 3-year term; · District 3, held by Jesse Torres, at the end of the current 3-year term; · District 2, held by Sam Hopkins, at the end of a 4-year term; and · District 6, held by Michael Richard, at the end of a 4-year term.
The elections for Districts 4, 5, and 7 would be held in 2011, at the end of 4-year terms. The seats are currently held by Julie Thompson (SMD 4), Jack Christiana (SMD 5) and Richard McCarter (SMD 7). Beginning with 2009, all trustee elections will be for 4-year terms.
